1.5 kilometres of streets lined with market stalls and wandering troubadours in Los Alcázares

Easter Week in Los Alcázares is celebrated not with solemn religious evening processions but, perhaps as befits the youngest municipality in the Region of Murcia, with an outburst of partying and parades during the Fiestas de las Incursiones Berberiscas (the fiestas of the Berber pirate raids).

One of the highlights of this 4-day event is the medieval market, which grows larger each year as success breeds success and in 2025 will occupy as much as 1.5 kilometres of the streets in the town centre. Over 200 stalls and stands will line Calle Los Luisos and the area around it, while among them there will be a host of wandering minstrels, street entertainers and costumed characters representing figures from the Middle Ages, including none other than King Alfonso X “El Sabio”, who conquered Murcia from the Moors way back in the 13^th century!

Among the goods for sale are perfumes, leather, dolls and puppets, incense, cosmetics, wooden toys, musical instruments, ceramics, footwear, herbal remedies, drinks and of course comestibles, and although some of the items on offer might not be exactly medieval the atmosphere certainly is, with the streets covered in straw and all of the stalls shaded by awnings.

Car parking for those visiting from outside Los Alcázares is available at various points along Avenida 13 de Octubre and on Calle Jaén, alongside the fairground which is being set up for the duration of the fiestas.
