The main indoor food market in Yecla is the “Mercado de Abastos”, located in Calle Concejal Juan Sebastián Pérez (click for exact location), and features a wide range of stalls offering fresh fish, meat, bread, fruit, vegetables and other products.
The market opens on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.00 to 13.30, on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7.00 to 14.00 and on Fridays from 7.00 to 14.00 and 17.30 to 21.30.
There is also a daily market in Plaza de San Cayetano (see map), which opens every day except Sunday from 8.00 to 14.00 and on Thursday and Friday afternoons (Thursday 18.00 to 21.00, Friday 17.30 to 21.30).
In addition, on Wednesdays there is a general market outside the main Plaza de Abastos, selling clothes, footwear and all kinds of items as well as food, and on Sundays there is a huge out-of-town market event from 9.00 to 15.00 at “El Mercaico”, a dedicated area for the market, on the C-3223 road which leads to Pinoso in the province of Alicante.
Note: as at markets the world over it is advisable to be aware of the risk of beign pickpocketed. Please take care with handbags, purses, wallets and loose cash, and avoid taking important documents such as passports or ID to street markets.
