Experts warn of 'inhuman temperatures' throughout Spain from next week
All indicators point to a brutally hot summer across Spain that could begin in the next couple of days

I’m sure everyone has been enjoying the last few days of sunshine and warmth after a decidedly long winter but brace yourselves, as things are about to get a whole lot hotter across Spain. The phrase “inhuman temperatures” is being bandied about in relation to the rest of June by one meteorologist whose weather predictions have proved scarily accurate over the years.
This rather worrying term has been coined by young Jorge Rey in relation to the forecast from next week onwards. He famously uses a traditional weather prediction method known as Cabañuelas, a practice based on observing weather patterns during specific days in January and August to make forecasts for the entire year.
Cabañuelas are not based on modern meteorology but rather on folklore and observation passed down over generations. While not strictly scientific, the 18-year-old infamously warned the country about the incoming storm Filomena back in 2019 and even hinted at the possibility of last year’s DANA. He’s also fairly accurate when it comes to foreseeing unusually hot and cold spells.
And on summer 2025, both Jorge Rey and the more mainstream forecasters like the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) are in agreement: it’s going to be an absolute scorcher.
After a chilly and very damp May, June has already started off on a high note and meteorologists believe that temperatures during the rest of the month will be more typical of July.
Some areas, such as the Guadalquivir Valley, could even reach or approach 40°C over the next few days, unusual for early June. Furthermore, the heat won't be limited to the central hours of the day: minimum temperatures will also be high, leading to tropical nights in many southern and Mediterranean cities.
In one of his recent videos, Rey described what is coming as "inhuman temperatures" and pointed to June 6 and 7 as the beginning of a sweltering heatwave.
What’s more, he believes that this won’t just be a temporary thermal spike, but rather a precursor to an extremely long, hot summer.
Aemet is also keeping a very close eye on the weather models to see how they develop over the next few days, and the experts haven’t ruled out issuing high temperature warnings, especially in the likes of Andalucía, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha and parts of the Ebro Valley.
Because of the uncertainty, the experts are advising people to pay attention to weather forecasts, avoid prolonged sun exposure during the middle of the day and stay hydrated. This advice is especially important for vulnerable groups, such as the elderly, children and those with chronic illnesses.
With the summer solstice fast approaching, temperatures are already hitting levels that wouldn’t normally be seen until deep into July. A combination of meteorological conditions and increasingly extreme weather patterns underscores the growing need to prepare for heatwaves, which are, unfortunately, becoming more frequent and intense.
