Murcia photo of the month May 2024
Here’s the top image of the month taken by the Los Alcázares Digital Camera Club (LADCC)
When the “Scape” title for this month’s Los Alcázares Digital Camera Club (LADCC) competition was announced you could hear mutterings from fellow members. “Well, what is a ‘scape’? Is it a landscape, seascape or could it be a skyscape?”
However, once the LADCC members had got their heads around the title some fabulous photographs were taken for this month’s competition. Some fourteen photos were judged by the members, which proved difficult due to the high quality of the photos taken. The joint winners this month were Jill Francis and Bob Gasston.
Jill’s ‘landscape’ was taken in the north of Murcia in Caravaca de la Cruz. Her picture, captured on a busy New Year’s Eve, is a beautiful photo looking down from the hill of the Basilica Shrine of Vera Cruz. Those familiar with the area may notice that this is also the starting point of Caravaca’s annual ‘Running of the Wine Horses’ event, due to take place this month.
Jill’s picture can be seen below.
LADCC were also fortunate last month to be given a really informative talk by Debra Duncan, who has recently been awarded her Licentiate (LRPS), from the UK’s Royal Photographic Society, on ‘Landscape Photography’. She gave a fascinating insight into the lengths she went to, creating beautiful photos for her award. This was a good reminder for the budding photographers of the LADCC that it is not always as simple as pressing a button on a camera and getting a good photo! Debra explained many of the techniques required for different aspects of her submitted photos. The LRPS took her some nine months to complete.
Her interactive talk was one of the many benefits of the LADCC. The club always tries to have a tutorial session or guest speaker, at the Las Claras centre in Los Alcázares, and they also arrange a monthly outing giving the opportunity for members to share knowledge on photography and to prepare for the forthcoming monthly competition.
If you would like more information about the club, who meet usually on the first and third Tuesdays of a month, please do not hesitate to drop them an email to informationladcc@gmail.com or visit the website www.Los-alcazares-camera.club.com

Share the pleasure of photography in the Mar Menor area
The Los Alcázares Digital Camera Club (LADCC) was founded in 2006 and was originally called the LA Digital Cafe, where members met over a coffee to discuss photography. This quickly developed into a more formal programme of monthly photo competitions and outings to places of photographic interest.
Over the years, the club has adapted to the changes in camera technology and techniques, and continued throughout Covid by using ‘Zoom’ for online meetings and learning sessions.
Fast forward to 2024, and the club is now a small, enthusiastic, friendly group where members encourage and support each other at the start of, and throughout, their photographic journey. The group includes a wide range of people with varying skills, all of whom are happy to share techniques, tips and ideas to improve one’s hobby.
They have monthly competitions and outings that provide an opportunity to explore different aspects of photography and develop camera craft and artistic skills. Their indoor sessions may include in-house training, reviews of monthly competitions or planning outings to cover topics discussed.
They meet once a month at the ‘Centro Cultural las Claras’ in Los Narejos, which has super facilities and ample parking. Any outings are usually towards the end of the month to link in with our regular competitions.
