New access road opens to Torrevieja fish market and Marina Salinas, paving way for port redevelopment

Temporary diversion marks key milestone for Levante Promenade overhaul and new leisure centre construction

A significant development took place in Torrevieja this Tuesday afternoon with the opening of a new temporary road giving access to the fish market and Marina Salinas Sports Marina, located within the port area. The two-way carriageway includes one lane leading into the port and another exiting towards the city centre, complemented by a pedestrian crossing connecting safely to Paseo de La Libertad.

This new route is crucial as it clears the way for work to begin on dismantling the existing Dique de Levante promenade, starting from the Monumento al Hombre del Mar up to the entrance of the port’s rehabilitation zone, which is nearing completion and expected to open soon.

The removal of this structure will allow construction to progress on the foundations of a new ramp and walkway, which will link directly to the “Paseo del Mar” Leisure Centre currently under development nearby. The project’s budget stands at over €2.6 million and is being carried out by Orthem, part of the Hozono Group.

Until now, access to the fish market and marina via Avenida de La Libertad was limited by traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, which caused jams during the busy summer months, especially since the only exit route from the city centre was along Calle Ramón y Cajal.

The opening of this temporary diversion not only eases traffic pressures but represents a fundamental step toward modernising Torrevieja’s waterfront and harmonising port activity with leisure and urban development. With these improvements, the city is set to offer residents and visitors a revitalised and more accessible port area in the near future.
