Niño Josele presents El mar de mi ventana at Cante de las Minas
Josele opened the window to his inner soul so we could bathe in the sea of his inspiration
Cante de las Minas on Saturday night welcomed Almerian guitarist Juan José Heredia, better known as Niño Josele, one of the most widely acknowledged flamenco guitarists currently performing on the circuit.
This is the first time Niño Josele has performed at La Unión as a solo artist, although he has participated in the gala nights on several previous occasions accompanying both Paco de Lucía and Enrique Morente, both of who have now passed on. During his performance he referred to this relationship with two of the greatest names of flamenco, paying tribute to Paco de Lucia with one of his best known themes.
However, this gala centred around his seventh solo album, El mar de mi ventana, a harmonious and softly swelling album which amply framed his extraordinary talent, building on a pure flamenco base, but injected with a rhythmic and melodic thread which took it from the realms of pure flamenco into a more mainstream solo work, reinforced with two harmonising voices.
Josele maintains that “every musician has his own “sea outside his window“ this being the things which nourish his soul and through which he can express himself, creating a state of inspiration through which the spirit is able to speak and the musician becomes capable of expressing everything inside him, be it good or bad, through his instrument.
In this work, he says, he opens the window to his own sea of inspiration, which fills him with good feelings and helps him to find inspiration, granting him the privilege of being able to make music.
The audience loved it, and all present bathed enthusiastically in his sea of inspiration, leaving an enthusiastic and appreciative audience a little damp around the edges, and carrying a few grains of sand home between their toes, a standing ovation following a harmonious and accomplished performance, leaving a sense of well being and contentment, reinforced by the dance gala which followed, Alma Minera, the new ambassador for both flamenco and Murcia worldwide.
