Cartagena has doubled its budget for improving La Manga del Mar Menor facilities this year
The ayuntamientos of Cartagena and San Javier are working together to prepare an infrastructure plan to improve services such as sanitation and mobility in La Manga del Mar Menor. Both councils are members of the La Manga Consortium, which met this Friday, April 5, to approve its accounts and management reports. The Mayoress of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, informed that the City Council has created its own Department for the Coastline to improve services in areas such as La Manga. She also revealed that the council’s the budget for this area has been doubled to be able to provide better services for La Manga all year round. The aim is to promote the deseasonalisation of tourism on the coast, something which is already underway in La Manga. In the first quarter of 2024, Cartagena as a whole – including La Manga del Mar Menor – received 20% more tourists than in the same period of the previous year, an increase that is partly due to major sporting events such as the Spanish Futsal Cup being held there and which the council has been promoting as a strategy to boost tourism. The Consortium meeting took place in La Manga del Mar Menor with the participation of neighbourhood associations, the Mar Menor Nautical Station, the regional association of hoteliers Hostecar, and the councillors Juan José López and Manuel Torres. The Consortium was also attended by the Councillor for Urban Planning of the City Council of San Javier, Antonio Martínez. He pointed out that work is currently underway on the urban planning of the Mar Menor basin, and that La Manga is also an attractive destination for hotel investors, who are willing to open new accommodation in the area.Image: CARM
