Stormy weather this bank holiday weekend: Spain forecast May 1-4
Heavy rains and thunderstorms will return to much of Spain this Labour Day weekend

Weather outlook on Friday May 2
Most people are looking forward to a nice long weekend to celebrate Labour Day and while we’ll certainly get to enjoy a couple of days off work, the weather sadly isn’t playing along. A new storm started inching in during the middle of the week and as we enter a new month, it’s only going to get worse.
The area most affected by rain and storms will be the Atlantic coast, where yellow warnings have already been issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), while the Mediterranean should miss the worst of the weather.

Weather outlook on Thursday May 1
However, on Thursday May 1, the storm will begin to move south, bringing heavy downpours to the Canary Islands, especially the western islands of La Palma and Tenerife. In mainland Spain, there will be scattered, patchy showers, mainly affecting highland areas in the centre and north of the country.
Friday May 2 will be the most unsettled day of the week as the storm gathers strength directly over Spain but it should weaken over the weekend as it moves northward. In the meantime, expect widespread showers and rain during the first half of Friday pretty much everywhere, with the exception of the Mediterranean coast.

Weather outlook on Saturday May 3
On Saturday May 3, Aemet has forecast showers once again in large parts of the country, although they could be more sparse in the central strip, the southeastern coasts, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.
By Sunday May 4 the storm will have weakened, but cold air will continue to hover over northern Spain. As a result, as we return to normal after the May Bank Holiday, we'll see showers across the northern half of the country.

Weather outlook on Sunday May 4
While they will avoid the brunt of the rain, the Mediterranean and the Balearics will have their own problems in the form of a calima, which will dump muddy dust deposits until Sunday.
