article_detailThe municipal auditorium in the Parque de la Compañía Molina de Segura
The open-air municipal auditorium is located in the Parque de la Compañía
The Parque de la Compañía in Molina de Segura is one of the principal open public areas within the town and covers the vast area of 52,250 square metres, with several areas used for different purposes throughout the year.
The municipal auditorium of Molina de Segura was built in 1985 in the Parque de la Compañía to host many of the events which are programmed every year during the months of May and September.
Designed by Antonio García Herrero, it is a semi-circular building which is partially sunk into the ground to avoid it protruding above the level of the 750 plants and trees in the park. The stage is also semi-circular, and the seating capacity is approximately 1,200, making it ideal for the popular events which are held in Molina during the summer. These include the Festival de Teatro, which in 2016 returned to its traditional dates in September, having been postponed for many years until October.
This theatre festival, which was first held under the name of Ciclo de Teatro Nuevo in 1970, was one of the first of its kind in Spain. In 1982 the name was changed to “Festival de Teatro” and it was taken over by the Town Hall, since when the event has attracted well-known performers and companies including Els Joglars and La Fura dels Baus.I
Located in the centre of the town it is situated between Paseo Rosales, Calle Profesor Joaquín Abellán, Calle Mayor, Plaza de España and Avenida de la Industria, alongside the centro comercial Vega Plaza.
