Torrevieja to get beautiful new park with sea views and giant lighthouse
The €12 million Alto de la Casilla park will cover 30,000 square metres and could open by early 2027
Torrevieja is getting one of its biggest green spaces yet, with plans for a huge new urban park that promises stunning views across the salt lagoons and Mediterranean Sea.
The Alto de la Casilla park will sprawl across more than 30,000 square metres and feature everything from wooded picnic areas to a 13-metre lighthouse structure. The €11.9 million project could be completed by February or March 2027 if building starts in May as planned.
Two massive themed play areas will be the main draw for families. The Pink Lagoon zone takes inspiration from Torrevieja's famous salt lakes and includes quirky features like the Salt Tower and Mountains, mining wagons and hexagonal slides shaped like salt molecules. It can accommodate up to 230 children across 22 different games.
The second area, Nautical World, celebrates the town's maritime heritage with attractions including the Ship of Torrevieja, the Shark and that eye-catching lighthouse, which will stand as one of the park's most visible landmarks. This zone has space for 164 children.
In addition to the play areas, the park will include a café with room for 170 people, parking for nearly 90 cars, dedicated bicycle parking and public toilets. A panoramic viewpoint will offer sweeping views of both salt lagoons and the sea.
The landscaping plans are ambitious too, with 537 trees including Aleppo pine, cypress and jacaranda, plus more than 12,000 shrubs and 1,540 aromatic plants like lavender, rosemary and thyme. Another 5,000 square metres will be laid with lawn.
The project has been approved and bidding should open within the next fortnight, with contractors potentially awarded the work in April.
